Ghost of Yōtei Will Mark the Start of “Major Single-Player Titles” Yearly, Says Sony

As revealed in its recent quarterly earnings results, Sony’s software sales are up. However, there’s always the question of what’s next. After causing a stir earlier this year by confirming no new major franchise titles before April 2025, it plans to release “major single-player game titles every year from next fiscal year onwards.”

This will begin with the launch of Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei in 2025. A release month has yet to be confirmed, though its first trailer looked very impressive. Set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, the sequel promises players more control over protagonist Atsu’s story while adding more “unique experiences” to its open-world formula.

Despite strong software sales, Sony expects its studio business sales and profits to decline for the second half of fiscal year 2025 over last year. Part of this is due to the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Helldivers 2. However, it assured that “steady progress” is being made in “the development of new titles” and “improving our live service game processes.”

Its last live service title, Concord, flopped spectacularly, leading to the game being pulled from sale and the closure of Firewalk Studios. The only other titles in development are Bungie’s Marathon (which will expand playtests next year) and Haven Studios’ heist title Fairgame$.
