No Man’s Sky’s newest Worlds update includes trillions of new planets

No Man’s Sky has become famous for its long list of free updates, many of them changing major facets of the space exploration game. In July 2024, developer Hello Games released Worlds Part 1, which overhauled things like wind patterns, flora and fauna spawns, and clouds. This update transformed familiar worlds, turning my placid and boring home world into a planet covered by gorgeous glowing grasses. On Wednesday, Hello Games revealed the follow-up, Worlds Part 2, which is available now.

The new update expands the existing gallery; in a news release, managing director Sean Murray said that there are “billions of new solar systems and trillions of new planets” that contain new biomes, new terrain, gas giants, and much more variety.

We can expect to see massive mountains now, as well as oceans that go kilometers deep, with huge creatures. Worlds Part 2 also overhauls lighting; light filters through a canopy of leaves, while a cave feels truly dark and immersive. Oceans reflect light, and sunsets are more vivid than ever. Gas giants sound fascinating, as they’re 10 times the size of the largest planets currently in the game, with massive storms that make exploration an endgame feat.

More details about the Worlds Part 2 update for No Man’s Sky are available in a deep dive video featuring Murray that Hello Games published Wednesday alongside the patch’s trailer:

Hello Games is continuing to work on Light No Fire, a fantasy adventure set on a single world. As Light No Fire comes together, Hello Games is borrowing tech and applying it to No Man’s Sky. We’re still a way out from seeing more of the studio’s next game, but it seems like there’s plenty of gas left in the tank when it comes to updating Hello Games’ flagship title.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
